FOOD PRODUCTION
(area of impact: food)
Food production (aka Gardening) is a labor of love for many – especially tomato production. Gardening on a larger scale, utilizing grey water and storm water capture systems is possible, increasing the yield per gallon of domestic water used. The fertilizer from a biodigester can increase yield without using industrially produced fertilizer, along with compost from kitchen scraps. Food sharing, selling food, or joining cooperatives can help broaden the array of crops that are available. Converting ornamental garden areas and lawn to food production can make use of water that is currently being consumed for non-productive purposes.
