The Biodigester is a residential scale waste-to energy system that has the side benefit of producing liquid fertilizer and also reducing the household waste stream, particularly for non-compostable food items. The system works by “digesting” food scraps, including bones, meat and oils, in an oxygen – free system similar to the human or animal gut. Bacteria inserted via fresh horse or cow manure consumes the food that is inserted, producing captured methane gas and nitrogen rich liquid fertilizer. The methane gas is burned on a cooking stove, reducing the amount of fossil fuels consumed at the residence for cooking.
